顛倒常理大頑童 Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss 是美國作家、漫畫家，以天馬行空的兒童讀物最為出名。

像是下圖的 Green Eggs and Ham 詼諧地利用不可思議的狀況（什麼！綠色的蛋跟火腿？），押韻 （如：Sam、ham）和重複加深你對單字記憶。可別小看童書。試著念看看：

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

金凱瑞真人版的《聖誕怪傑》可能比書更廣為大家知道。壞心眼的 Grinch 受不了鎮上人每年大肆慶祝聖誕節，決定大搞破壞偷走聖誕節讓大家痛苦。其中，最棒的句子是當 Grinch 意識到聖誕節的真諦：

Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas… perhaps… means a little bit more!”

Grinch 體會到，也許， what if，聖誕節不只是從店裡來的禮物，而是… 其它，something more。

Horton Hears a Who!

不管多渺小的生命都是可貴的，透過一朵花也可以看見全世界。大象 Horton 發現肉眼看不見的 Whos 鎮、鎮民，他要如何拯救它們並且讓搭加相信他不是瘋子呢？

書裡最棒的一句話應該是：

A person’s a person, no matter how small.

每個人，不管多不起眼，都是一個獨立個體。（哈哈，不是直翻，不過 Dr. Seuss 想傳達的道理不正是如此？）

另外一個我覺得超好笑的橋段：

ASAP. Whatever that means. It must mean, ‘Act swiftly awesome pachyderm!”

ASAP 是英文縮寫，代表：’As soon as possible’，就是越怪越好。如果你有一件急事拜託人家你可以在 email 後面加一句, “please get back to me ASAP” （請儘快回復我）。

大象 Horton 超天才地自己把 ASAP 翻譯成 “喔，快一點，你這隻超棒的大象。”

Pachyderm 指的是腳掌厚厚的厚皮類動物，如：大象、犀牛。

想想，繞口令跟童謠、童詩不也跟 Dr. Seuss 的作品一樣令人朗朗上口。一東一西，語言不同卻有異曲同工之妙。你還記得你小時候最愛念的詩或唱的歌嗎？
